MTC is an Indigenous-led, Indigenous-focused menstrual equity program

Dedicated to advancing menstrual equity, Moon Time education, and cultural connection. At MTC, we work alongside nearly 300 northern and remote Indigenous communities to provide access to free menstrual products, Nation-specific Moon Time stories and knowledge, and opportunities for learning together.

MTC is a flagship project of True North Aid.

Our work is grounded in love, reciprocity, and respect for cultural teachings.

Moon Time Connections is guided by Aunties, Older Ones, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Two-Spirit Kin and is supported by Communities who we walk this path alongside.

Community-led Moon Time gatherings from coast to coast to coast

Moon Time Aunties + Kin are a circle of Community caregivers who walk with youth, women, and gender-diverse relatives through all stages of their Moon Time journeys. Moon Time Aunties (MTA+’s) offer Moon Time gatherings and knowledge sharing, and compassionate support from your first Moon to your last, rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing.

MTA+’s create space for cultural reconnection, healing, and empowerment. This is helping Community strengthen identity, deepen relationships, and access guidance that honours heart, mind, body, and Spirit. MTA+ teaches about our relationship to our bodies, period product awareness, and opens safe spaces to ask questions for Community members of all ages and genders.

MTC+ Research: Adding Community voices to the Period Equity Conversation

There have been numerous reports about what period equity looks like in Canada, but none that include the voice of Community and take into account the unique factors affecting kin in northern and remote areas of the country. We’re changing that.
Part of MTC’s advocacy work includes partnering with Communities across the country to complete our survey, An Assessment of Menstrual Related Needs in Northern Communities, to ensure northern voices are included in the period equity conversation in Canada.
If you are 14 years or older, menstruate, and live in a remote northern Community in Canada you can be part of the second edition of our survey. Click here to participate.
The results of this survey will provide valuable data insights to help us continue to advocate for funding and resources to improve access to menstrual products and culturally relevant Moon Time education for Community.
Results from the first edition of this survey were shared with the Government of Canada, which led to the Menstrual Equity Pilot that provided funding to organizations like Moon Time Connections to support menstrual equity efforts in the north. Together we can affect real change for Indigenous menstruators in remote Communities.
